Reduce Your Liability With Professional Photo & Video

February 1, 2023

In construction, managing liability isn’t just about contracts and inspections—it’s about documentation. Professional photography and videography can serve as powerful tools to reduce risks, provide evidence, and build trust. By capturing detailed visuals of your projects, you ensure accountability and clarity at every stage of the process.

Why Documentation Matters

Construction projects are complex, involving numerous stakeholders, tight timelines, and significant investments. Without proper documentation, misunderstandings or disputes can arise, leading to unnecessary risks. Professional photography and video can:

  • Protect Against Disputes: Visual records provide clear evidence of progress, quality, and compliance.
  • Ensure Transparency: Stakeholders have a comprehensive view of the project at every stage.
  • Enhance Accountability: Contractors, clients, and team members are more likely to adhere to agreements when everything is documented.

Two Very Powerful Tools

Two very important tools at our disposal are Orthomosaic images and high-quality flyovers. If you haven't read the difference between traditional photos and orthomosaics be sure to read "What is Orthomosaic Imaging?". In the video below you'll see a high-quality aerial video that can be used to asses the pre-existing conditions of this roadway. Not only will this help with accurate documentation of the project corridor but we're able to easily see the conditions of all driveways and private roads that aren't part of the improvement project but still have connections to it. Having these pre-existing conditions is vital to curb any misuse of potential insurance claims.

Enhanced Imaging Saves Time & Money

Having high-quality video is worth it's weight in gold but something that can enhance the quick inspection of the video is an Enhanced Definition Image (EDI). In the example below you can see the same flyover as above but with half the screen enhanced as an EDI. Notice how the cracks, potholes, and manhole covers instantly pop out and become noticeable. This type of imagery can help reduce your review time and help spot changes quickly. The beauty of a flyover like this is we can redo the flight throughout the construction process and use the EDI to make sure we didn't cover any vital connections, like sewer access or gas and water gates.

The Bottom Line

Professional photography and videography are more than aesthetic tools—they’re essential for protecting your business. From reducing liability to enhancing communication and marketing, visual documentation is an investment in your project’s success.
